Preparing for your Photo Session

The Basics

Time of Day:

-The best light for outside photos comes within the last 2 hours prior to sunset.

-Dim light and shade produce the best results, so avoid the harsh daytime sun. This is especially important in the non-winter months.

Location:

-We are willing to have you out to our studio. Our studio creates an all-white background for your photos. We also have good outdoor space at our location, including woods, rocks, an old, rustic part of a barn, and wooden fence.

-We are willing to travel to a location of your choice. If your location is more than 30 miles from our studio (in Stillwater), we will charge a milage rate of $0.57 for each additional mile. Keep in mind that if you choose multiple locations for your session, if the total mileage adds up to more than 30 miles, you will be charged the mileage fee.

Preparing for your Photo Session

Beyond The Basics: CHILDREN/FAMILIES

Clothing:

-No more than one person in a family should be wearing a print.

-Wear coordinating colors, but not the exact same outfit.

-Choose the 1 outfit that has a print first, then find other outfits with coordinating colors.

-Try to stay away from shirts that are completely white or completely black.

-Avoid shiny details or sequins on your clothing as they reflect on to your face in the photos.

-For babies, avoid just having them in a diaper. If you have a diaper cover you like, bring it along. We have a couple of diaper covers available at the studio for your use, free of charge.

Snacks and the Kids who Eat them:

-Avoid eating any snacks that produce a lot of crumbs before or during the photo session (i.e. crackers or chips).

-Bring a snack that your child(ren) enjoy(s) for during the session. Make sure it is a snack that won't lead to a messy face or clothing. Some good examples are: fruit snacks, gummy bears, grapes, raisins, M&Ms, and chocolate chips.

Attention Getters:

-This is especially important for very young kids. If there is something they like, bring it along to get their attention towards the camera. Sometimes it isn't a physical item, but rather their favorite song or game. Think about these ideas ahead of time.

Toys:

-If your child(ren) has/have special toys or other items that are special, bring them along to use in the photos!

Preparing for your Photo Session

Beyond The Basics: High School Seniors

Clothing:

-We allow for as many clothing changes as you desire, but keep in mind that you may need to carry them around at the session (depending on location).

-Think about things that are important to you and your high school career. Some examples might be a letter jacket, sports uniforms, and sports equipment.

Location:

-Think about what is important to you. Some of our best photos have been on location in swimming pools, on sports fields, and at nature centers.

-We do allow for multiple locations, so you may want to choose a great "photo location" and one place that has significance to your high school career.

Make Up:

-When applying your make up, it is best to stay away from frosted, or overly glossy make up products.

-Even if you don't normally wear make up, it is suggested to wear some for your photo session. It will help give you a smooth, even tone, and prevent unwanted shine.

What to Bring (optional):

-Clothing Changes

-Brush

-Mirror

-Oil blotting papers

-Make Up for touch ups

-Bag to carry things in
